Love is in the Air
The love of teaching that is

It has been difficult to get back into teaching. We have been teaching face to face since August but with all different kinds of ‘rules’ in place. It has really tested me to find the love of teaching. Now for those of you who are still remote or hybrid teaching…you my friend, most likely need to dig a little deeper to find that love.

Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love teaching but this year has made me realize how much we took for granted. For example, seeing our student’s whole faces, hearing their soft whispers or noise making, and knowing who actually made the sound instead of looking at a see of eyes and wondering where it came from because everyone is muffled under a mask.

It’s time to find a new grove, realize that this isn’t going away as soon as we had hoped and that the love of teaching is still possible.

So very true! Although retired from teaching in Wyoming, I found that my day was not complete unless I had the opportunity to be in the classroom. After teaching in Wyoming for 36 years, I am now teaching in Minnesota after two years in South Dakota. Each new school has its own set of challenges, but this first year in Minnesota has brought its own set of hills to climb! As a music educator, it has been so difficult to see the joy in the students faces as they sing a silly sing for fun! I have found new ways to create joy and am in the midst of one of my favorite projects right now. The students are writing their own compositions by rolling dice! Who would have thought this could be a source of joy in my life as well as theirs? I can’t wait for the class to play each composition and see the pride in their precious eyes ... knowing that the smiles that are hidden beneath the mask will be beaming as well!
