As professionals in education, we give so much of ourselves to others during the school year. By the time summer arrives, we carry more than just lesson plans and data. We have the weight of every student, every success, every struggle, and every indoor recess. We believe in the 3 Rs of summer: Rest, Reflect, Reimagine. These are more than actions; they are a mindset for renewal. It’s a personal process, but here are just a few ideas to help you move through reflection and refueling to return stronger for the year ahead. Rest: The Crucial Foundation for RenewalRest does not look the same for everyone. For some, rest means stepping away, completely closing the laptop, setting down the planner, and picking up a good book or a beach towel. For others, rest means making room for family time, travel, or even projects that bring joy. No matter what your version looks like, the purpose is the same: to give your mind and heart space to breathe. We never truly turn our educator brains off. Thoughts about next year still sneak in. But rest allows those thoughts to settle and shift. When resting, make space for creativity to reenter. Research supports this as well; when we disconnect, our brains become more open to inspiration. Hike, read, garden, or take a nap, and give yourself the gift of true rest. You deserve it. Reflection: Shaping the Future Of EducationAfter rest, move into reflection. Educators naturally reflect every day, we think on our feet, adjust our lessons, make hundreds of decisions, and ask what works. But summer reflection looks different. It allows you to step back and see the whole picture. “What went well?” “What felt heavy?” “What lesson or moment made me say, ‘Yes, this is why I teach’?” Pull out a notebook and jot down the units you want to keep and those you want to reshape. This time gives clarity on how to move forward, not by adding more, but by choosing what is most meaningful. Reflection helps us to let go of what did not serve our students or selves. It also reminds us of the moments that did. The goal is not perfection, it is purpose. What matters most? What aligns with goals for student growth and engagement? These answers guide what to keep and what to let go. Reimagine: Dream ForwardNow comes a teacher favorite: reimagine. Look ahead with hope. “What could next year look like?” “How can I make this lesson even better?” “What pathway could help this unit land more deeply with my students?” This step sparks joy. Think about bringing in more movement. Perhaps lean more towards the visual arts or music. Consider new strategies from ElevatED Educator that you would like to try. Reimagine old routines and design fresh experiences that bring learning to life again. The best part? You do not need to overhaul everything. One change, one new idea, one reimagined moment can shift the entire tone of a classroom. Just start with one spark. You Deserve a ResetIf you feel tired, you are not alone. The burnout is real, but so is the breakthrough. Give yourself permission to rest without guilt. Reflect without judgment. Reimagine without limits. You are an artist, and your masterpiece is still in progress. So take this summer to refuel. Come back ready not with more, but with what matters. This next year holds promise. Your spark is not gone; it just waits for a bit of sunshine and space. We would love to hear from you. What does rest look like for you? Tag us or share your reflection. Let’s inspire one another as we prepare to reimagine what comes next. #ElevatedEducator #3RsOfSummer ElevatED Educator: Creating Purposeful Classroom Learning Experiences School leaders looking to energize their staff and transform instruction should look no further than IntegratED’s dynamic professional development session, ElevatED Educator: Creating Purposeful Classroom Learning Experiences.
